Drivetrain Repair FAQ’s – Jackson MS

  1. What parts make up the drivetrain?

A vehicle’s drivetrain is not just one part of your vehicle—it’s a system of components that work jointly with the engine to move your vehicle. This system generally consists of the transmission, differential, engine, driveshaft, axles, CV joints, and wheels. Each of these components contributes to transferring power to your vehicle, allowing you to get moving.

  1. What are common signs of drivetrain problems?
  • Unusual noises such as clunking, grinding, or whining
  • Vibrations or shuddering during acceleration
  • Difficulty shifting gears or slipping gears
  • Fluid leaks under the vehicle
  • Warning lights on the dashboard, such as the check engine or powertrain light

If you experience any of these symptoms, stop by one of our shops for a free inspection.

  1. Can I drive my vehicle with a failing drivetrain?

Yes, in ‘some’ cases, it is possible to drive short distances with minor drivetrain issues, but we do not recommend this. Continuing to drive your vehicle can lead to further damage, which will be more expensive to fix.

However, we offer FREE towing with major repairs, so call us and we’ll schedule a tow!  Another great reason not to risk driving your vehicle any further!

  1. How can I prevent drivetrain problems?

Regular maintenance of your drivetrain is key to prolonging its life:

  • Stick to service intervals that your manufacturer recommends
  • Address any strange noises or vibrations – don’t put off!
  • Avoid aggressive driving, especially when the vehicle is in 4WD or AWD mode
  • Monitor fluid levels and top them off as required
  • Proactive maintenance can often help avoid the need for more significant and expensive repairs later on.
